This year we will be experimenting with presenting GarDel not just as a dance band but as a musical act for anyone to learn more about, right along side their favorite jazz and indie rock/folk pursuits. If we can be a catalyst for the integration of diverse audiences, so much the better. Will there be enough dancing? Who needs an opening band? That seemed to me a waste of time on a Sunday night. It was indeed way too loud, but I wonder if Lazarito just likes it like that? Every review I've read of Bamboleo shows mentions bad sound, I don't get it since the Cuban bands bring their own engineers. Manolito (in Arlington) had a great sound mix, were you there? Also, I agree that VIP sections are obnoxious. That said, the promoter was very courteous and professional to me, and I feel for him because I'm sure he didn't make his money back on that crowd. Interesting what you said about the Metro affecting attendance, I didn't think of that.

Keep on dancing...Sylvia P.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08596387581252225079noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8048162346222017918.post-55851902934876970542010-10-06T23:10:27.069-04:002010-10-06T23:10:27.069-04:00Thanks for this post, especially the video!

I forgot to mention this in the report, but later in the show he took over the piano/keyboard position (as seen, faintly, in my last video). I wonder how long he's been doing that. It's kind of funny. that type of "guitar hero" synth has become "in style" in Cuba for some reason. But I'm surprised Lázaro would give up the piano just so he can stand in front. I was a DJ at Eastern Washington University which is 30 minutes from Cour de Laine, Idaho. It was Saturday morning and I was playing World Music. Jillian and the boys were schedule to play In Cour de Alene that evening. I interviewed her and Johnny for about 30 minutes cutting in some of their music. I concluded the interview and dedicated the rest of my World Music set to Jilliand and the boys. Their music was so groovy I just didn't want to listen to anything else that day.

During that era Cour de Alene was a hotbed for white hatred groups. I remember thingking I would never go there because of that. But in typical style the band was about knocking down stereotypes and showing all people the beauty of our musical Latino heritage and they were going to be enjoyed! I sat next to Jillian's dad selling Cd's throughout the show and just enjoying the music and watching all sorts of different folks dancing... It turned out to be a beautiful evening under the stars as the audience watched the stars... and you were the most brilliant star onstage that evening Jillian.Felix Solanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8048162346222017918.post-84613780569590607602010-06-07T15:45:39.780-04:002010-06-07T15:45:39.780-04:00Wow, what an experience!
